Very true mf, although I believe that in addition to being an effective trick, it's an exclusive technique for authors with high engagement on social media as an advertisement for themselves and with good art.
BjAlex was a success for Mingwa bcs she had a high level of engagement abroad, the public loved the plot plus her art style. With high publicity everyone wants to be updated with her next works. This's a rare cycle dreamed for many mangakas but conquered by very few of them and I believe that's why she can afford this current luxury of squeezing readers' curiosity with momentary frustration here with Jinx without losing readers (since I read in several places that she supposedly said that Jk and Dan's journey will be long).
Ok but all this could also be a bullshit and we're all wrong, Mingwa lost his mind with 50 chapters without character development and doesn't know what he's doing anymore. Bcs we can't say anything for sure since Jinx's her 2nd yaoi work so far. ╮(▰˘◡˘▰)╭
Imma disagree, this is due to bad writing, like I can clearly tell the story is just being made up as each chapter comes out. A good story takes time to build characters that readers care about. This author didn't have a direction in how they want the story and characters to be. Quite literally the only reason people are reading this is the art style or just hate reading lol
To add that's also one of the worst and laziest things you can do as an author, as I've been told before you gotta think of your characters as real people then add and apply whatever you want for your characters, this story just doesn't have that. I mean it's been a year and the plot has barley progressed into something
As an author myself, it's hard to make your character dumb when you know the right choices at a given time, but a bad plot doesn't always mean a waste of time. In fact, it's an effective way to engross the reader into reading more because they're unsatisfied
