Never hated characters so much…

Well, those of us who were emotionally abandoned and yet still had to play the pretty family tend to hate ourselves more than anything else while still trying to cling to anything for just a tiny bit of affection. It's a hypocrisy that we know is there and can't do anything about. I think Else is a perfectly written character that really reflects very well then mentality of someone who was abused the way she was. Feeling unlovable yet desperately wanting to be loved.

I have no idea wtf is Ian's problem! If he had openly shown that he actually loves her, she would have done absolutely anything for him. She would have aided in his escape better and gone with him when he left. She would have turned on the family that never loved her in an instant for the person who gave her the love she was so desperate for. He fully understands what is going on with her, and he's playing her like a toy. It's disgusting. He's also a flipping KING. He could have done so much to save this girl and he just.... Doesn't. For NO REASON!

The thing you said that pisses me off the most is "she deserves" and "wants it". No person going through abuse EVER deserves their mistreatment! It's a cycle you get stuck in. So completely starved for attention that you do whatever it takes to get it, then you hate yourself for being such an aweful and greedy person, you know you're not worth loving and feel that you need punishment for desiring such a thing, you tell yourself you won't do aweful things anymore and you'll actively try to be a good person, and then the loneliness grows and the desire for affection gets too strong and the questions of "why" start again and the cycle repeats.

This story has potential to be a wonderful way of showing the mentality of abuse victims and the proper way to get out and get better. Or even a romantic rose-tinted smut where the guy saves the girl. Instead it's just further abusing a victim for the pure pleasure of beating down a broken soul.

I genuinely want to know why you find else stupid, is it because she just takes her situation as it is or something different?

I wrote this when I was frustrated with her for accusing him of rape. The next best thing she thought of after having yet another emotion breakdown where she lost her calm was to accuse the man of rape, as if she didn’t know that something like that will not go the way she wants it to. When has her plans ever gone right? She is a fool who walks the same path and falls into the same pit over and over again.

Anyways, I could’ve been more careful with the choice of words I used. ‘Deserves’ was too cruel. However, I do stand by the statement that there is an inevitability in the coming together of two such warped characters. I believe the direction life takes depend on the choices made by a person. Not a lot of us come from loving families with parents who are examples of healthy relationships and paragons of parenthood, but, it is a choice to educate oneself and learn to protect oneself through whatever means. We can say, ‘oh, but the times…’ we know of so many women who still rose strong despite the times and continue to do so now. Therefore, in reading this story, I refuse to look at her as a victim anymore but a perpetrator. While we as readers know he is warped, she doesn’t. That means, as she acknowledges in the beginning of the story, he is an object she has chosen to obsess over and who she rapes every night. What little power she has, she chooses to exploit it.

This is what I meant. Again, language could’ve been regulated as I posted the earlier comment, however, I stand by my statement.

Ah, I see. I was under the impression you wrote the original comment about Else and her current husband but it seems to be about the male lead.

I understand, I was frustrated with her accusing him of rape too and I wondered why she chose to do what she did. In my opinion, I think it must be because she wanted to hurt Ian as much as she feels like she has been hurt by him with the other maid.

Although I do think she went too far and she definitely is not innocent, in defense of her I want to say that she is a very nuanced character and that the author doesn’t seem to portray her as an innocent female lead. Her actions that are despicable are deemed despicable, however, we are also shown her times of weakness and despair where we can see that she has also been a victim. She is portrayed as a foolish and mentally-ill person and she acts that way and although it doesn’t excuse her actions it’s nice to see the cause-and-effect as one might call it.

I personally don’t see her as helpless since she is a grown woman and she has indeed made some (very questionable) choices. Even if some of those choices might be made through the narrative of being helpless and having no other choice, I think the author writes it in a beautiful way where you can’t quiet justify her actions but you can understand why she has made them.

I do hope you continue reading as I think this is a wonderful work that shows the nuances and duality of very human characters. Although the characters may not be likable, I feel like the story itself unfolds in a very reasonable and logical manner. However, if it frustrates you to the point of heartburn I suggest maybe not finishing it and prioritizing your health.

Haha. Yes, I have chosen to take a break from it until the situation changes. I suppose, this is not the manga one feels like reading on a bad day. :D the revenge ones fuel your soul, especially with some of the characters being absolutely brilliant in the way they play the system!

Absolutely disgusting. I apologize for being rude but your words are trash. You didn’t understand and decided to not understand. She expects herself to birth a child for the sake of bloodline and die right after, what do you even expect from a person who wants to just complete a task just to be buried? It gives me rage when someone who doesn’t understand the pain, but speaks like they even know a sh*t. See how she realized that there’s no way for her child to inherit the title and she was gonna end things? (╬￣皿￣)凸 do not comment a word if you know how to use your brain.
