I think due to their circumstances and from his standpoint it was a little hard to say without sounding hypocritical to Yuki. Itsuomi is an empathetic and kind person, but its kind of awkward for him to vocally say that to someone else. Someone who's truly kind and empathetic don't boast what and how they are as a person and just shows it without seeking validation from someone else.
Imo Itsuomi doesn't have a savior complex, dude knows his boundaries and has a solid belief on what's right and wrong. Take what he did with Emma when she went to impose on him at his apartment. Instead of rudely throwing her away on the street -which he had every right to do so, he gave her time to realize it on her own that what she's doing is futile. And I'm sure, Itsuomi tried different approaches on rejecting her in the past. He could have hurt and demean her as a person which would shatter Emma for sure, but took a kinder approach instead. Moreover, for a young kid like him to realize that what comfort he has growing up isn't the same for everyone deserve much more than being labeled as someone who has a savior complex.
Itsuomi can have savior complex while still being able to set boundaries, and to know what’s wrong and what’s right. Doesn’t mean he is a bad person.
Regarding the issue with children around the world, it’s not only realization, he’s convinced that he has to help them by going abroad, and he has to become a hero for them. That’s not just « oh I’m privileged » . It’s the same mechanism that push people to do « volunteering » abroad, taking advantage of the situation to do some tourism, while boosting their egos.
You’ve turned it into something it’s not. He doesn’t want to “save” them he wants to help them he isn’t going sight seeing to see other ppl suffer and leave, his role model is someone that helps these kids have a better chance in life. People like this make the world a better place and seeing as this is the first time we’ve seen him talk about it shows that it’s not something he wants to brag about. He’s choosing to talk about it now because yuki has been curious about it since the beginning. Your reaction to it is odd.
With stuff like this I tend to go with authors intentions regardless of reality. Just go with the flow of the manga. I doubt she’s going to frame it as a savior complex. That would be very surprising for a shoujo manga.
More than likely the author wanted to give a reason for his traveling and give a hint into what his future career could be like.
I agree with what other people said about him not having a hero complexe. Itsuomi isn’t frankly speaking, gaining much from doing this type of work in this world. He is giving more than receiving and he seems to be okay with that. He does not boast about it, since from what we’ve read so far not many people know about his full story. Only those who are close to him are aware of the reason he chose to do this type of work. Other people might just look at it on the surface and think that he has a hero complex, but I think that’s a very shallow way of looking at someone’s desire to give back to the world. Even for me, I still do things that will help others even if they don’t know about it because I recognize that I am in a position to help and I want to do it. Nobody will thank me for that and I don’t expect them to thank me either. I will do it because I simply want to, just like Itsuomi. I might tell how great it felt to help others to some close friends, but I am certainly not boasting about how great I am. In fact, I will encourage others to help if they are capable of doing so, so that we can all make this place a better world. It’s about your contribution, not about your ego. We are not doing this alone. :)

He didn't even finish his story yet you draw a conclusion. What is with being sympathy & wants to help those who in need is equal to wanting to be a hero?? U consumed to much toxic medias and become this prejudice. A KID having this thought is literally precious and sincere. Children should learn to have a sympathy since their young.
he's a kid at that time ofc everything he termed will be " hero ". The term which grownup will change it as "inspiration". He realises tht he CAN do something to help when he saw tht man. Boy just an empath & sympathize to those poor kids w same age as him, and u called him having savior complex. Lmaoo it looks like u r calling those who donated to the poor or for war relief as having savior complex.
reminding u that this is not ai yazawa and not every character in manga is gonna be a red flag who is plotting the worst.. this author specifically writes pure fluffy stories and youre thinking too much into his character trying to be a psychologist when you literally js look dumb asfk... this was supposed to be like a cute moment where we see another side of him and his dream and youre twisting it bc youre too used to toxic ass mangas
I think your environment in real life hasn't been kind to you. Nobody is saying he'll turn into a villian but your perspective on how the author portrayed his kindness is cynical. This is only my opinion but the author did great on portraying Itsuomi's kind character. Those who boast their kindness aren't really kind but doing it out of validation or guilt and not because they are good. Good people also often think they aren't kind because they think what they do is common humanity. But as many have said, let's just continue reading and go with the flow as the author intends. Let's not put this story inside a box and should think outside of it.
May kindness be felt and be with you all.
Ok wow he definitely has savior complex
