Lol I'm glad I'm not the only one that thinks that XD
Imo it would've been better to just stick with what he's been doing with mastering different crafts and having fun that way rather than trying to make him out to be some saintly character but then not actually taking any responsibility for his words/actions? Like sure 5 years is nothing for him now, but he lived as a human before too??

It wasn't 5 but 2 years which means the kid would be 1 years old in human years and that would make sense. That would be around the time a baby would start eating solid food and starting to walk and talk. And if there WAS an error with the years and he meant 5 then that would make the kid 2 ½ which is a toddler which would make more sense to actually send a kid off then a baby that still needs his mother's milk.
Ok kinda weird but if he said he was gonna raise the kid I assumed he was actually going to do so after the kid was born esp since the elves didn't want to have it and made it pretty clear. But then he waits like 5 years (in the meantime they're mistreating the kid (doesn't even have a name for 5 years wtf and idk how else they're emotionally abusing him for him to get so attached to mc so quickly) and then when he gets the kid he's like oop ok who's gonna look after him cuz I'm too busy with stuff. I don't get it, why did he say he could/wanted to look after the kid in the first place then? It feels off and just want to know if he actually gets more involved or not??
