I understand where you are coming from. Although I'm an author (novels not manga) who does this to my mc. Not for a back story but to vent and cope with my past where I dealt with SA. I can't vouch for the other authors but some people projects their past on to their characters to cope or get over their past. Sorry, I'm not saying you're wrong or criticizing you.
God I don't know what to say. You're right and I understand your point too. I'm really sorry you had to go through that. I think there are writers who understand the depth of it and do justice to it then there are some who just throw it in and never properly address it. I think that's where the difference comes in. But I get your point
I agree sooooo much and I'm glad you brought this up. I'm starting to see r*pe in so many new stories (and old ofc) as if it were a trope and romanticized. It got to the point where I have to take a break from manga sometimes. Ofc there's stories that use the topic extremely well and delicately but when authors use abuse casually or even as a comedic factor it disgusts me.
Right and the fact with so many of these mangas the rape is so unnecessary and treated like nothing like you can literally take it out of the story and it would still make perfect sense but the author just wanted to draw the uke getting raped by some random for who knows why literally the reason so many of my fav manga quickly became mangas I hated like dear door it was brutal
Y'all everyone who replied, thanks for it. I read something really bad yesterday and everyone was okay in the comments while my mind was buzzing. So I came here to rant a bit, I didn't think anyone would agree or engage. I feel better now after knowing that I'm not the only one who gets triggered by this and that other people also hate it. Didnt expect a healthy conversation on mangago. Have a good day all of you and thank u for replying
I really wish authors would stop using the r*pe trope. There's something deeply messy about adding a r*pe scene to a character's past to give the character depth. And I feel like it's been happening way too many times and quite often unnecessarily. Especially with child abuse. There's something very wrong with using r*pe to make your work popular. It's not a mechanism to cash on. I don't know how to explain it but I really don't understand how someone could use something so serious just so... casually. Just sitting and deciding what to use to make the main characters oast tragic and it's- dad who drinks, mom who left and a pinch of r*pe and bullying to garnish. Sometimes its necessary, sometimes it's just unnecessarily added to make main character the main character. I just really really hope that this would stop and people would call out authors like this because I know for a fact that someone who has actually been r*ped doesn't feel like they're a main character in a story at all. It's a painful experience, too painful to be used for going viral or to build a tragic past.
