Is he though? From his perspective it would seem like he’s being led on, and he’s trying to process it. It’s not really childish to want to avoid having an uncomfortable conversation in the chance it could lead to rejection…it’s a very normal human reaction. Obviously he SHOULD communicate with the ML, but it also goes both ways.
I think the MC is valid for overthinking things and making assumptions tbh. Obviously the right thing to do would be for both of them to communicate, but realistically…a lot of people would react the way the MC did. If you see the guy you like with a girl he supposedly dated before and they’re doing very couple-like things, you can’t help but jump to conclusions.
