IDK what you would call stories like this that make you feel immersed in the world, but I love it. Honestly, Ilay is a horrible person but he makes a great character plot-wise. I appreciate that Taeui makes realistic decisions for his character, like impulsively taking his anger out and letting his human nature show. It gives him a lot of depth even as an "average" character. I absolutely love that Ilay is in a position of authority now, it adds so many potential paths to the plot and I'm in love with this whole story. It feels thorough and deep, similar to Circumstances of a Fallen Lord. I love this "slow-burn" feel where the characters grow relationships steadily and are treated as though they would be in actual society.
