i’ll explain it simply for u bb

esper has power. esper uses too much power. esper needs to calm down and regulate their emotions and powers. esper cannot do it on their own, and can self destruct or go crazy and hurt others. guide comes in. guide can, almost always with physical touch, calm down the espers. but they need to have good compatibility or else the guides will become sick from the power imbalance and the espers will usually feel pain. espers CANNOT live without guides, and will almost always have specific guide given to them at some point. because of espers need for guides, they are usually very possesive. there are things like imprinting to where the esper can only receive guiding from THEIR guide and vice versa and its sad if their guide dies or if their esper dies

so imagine like you need paracetamol for a headache that's kinda it yk

so espers use their powers, yk it drains them and it has bad side effects and if the side effects aren't calmed it can become terrible

like if u leave a lot to boil for too long it spills over, in this case the esper will derail and die or something - depends on the manga

so in order for espers to not experience side effects and remain calm there are guides

guides are like their sedative, a pain killer in a sense.
espers and guides can be really compatible and the treating of an espers by a guide can realllyyyy help
or they can be non compatible and it doesn't help calm the esper at all

generally to calm and esper the guide must share aura or physical touch - depending on the manga.
The more touch = the more guiding
Or the more compatibility = more guiding
(guiding can just be called healing in this to help)

its usually story between an esper and a guide. so basically esper needed guide so they can control their power via intimate relations. if they don't, the esper goes berserk and it becomes a disaster. :)

Like omegeverses, and maidenverses, esperverses and guideverses are a new and developing BL sub-genre that has many variations.

In general, Esperverse is a universe where human mutants or hybrids (called espers) have superpowers (also called ESP).
A guideverse exists within an esperverse, where special humans (called guides) have a co-dependant relationship with espers. These guides have healing abilities (called mana) activated through intimacy by either body touch or transfer of bodily fluids.

The very first Guideverse BL manga is called Ikigami to Donor (Yamanaka, Hiko), which takes on the human hybrid (esper) called ikigami and their human mana giving counterpart (guide) called donors. The guides in this early depiction can transfer mana with power and healing capabilities via intimacy, but the power is limited, where if the ikigami requires it they will take blood, organs and even limbs from their guide.

Royal Servant (MasterGin , Chungnyun), one of the most popular series which takes a unique approach to esper/guides, has hybrid humans (called Royal Bloods) with ESP that need intimacy with humans they have linked with (called servants) to enhance and maintain their mana. Royal Bloods use their abilities to protect citizens from human mutant monsters called ZEROS.

The most recent stories under this genre are becoming more refined with their definition of esper (human hybrid soldier) and their co-dependant counterpart guide (human/hybrid with healing abilities) usually set in a world where monster dungeons exist, which support the need for such beings. There are also a level system in these latest renditions which depict both espers and guides being allocated a class dependent on their ability. S-class is the highest level of esper, and they require an equally powerful guide to support them (a rare commodity), or use multiple guides at one time if they’re unable to get a match. A reoccurring theme are the espers exceeding the limit of their abilities and becoming unstable, either literally exploding like an atom bomb, or turning into the very monsters they’re sworn to destroy. The only prevention is to maintain their guided sessions to cleanse themselves or emergency treatment.

Some titles that include these are:
    B-Class Guide (Nangjun)
    Guilty Affection (Chelliace)
Ordinary Daily Life of an Omegaverse Guide (Ha Se-young , Guman)
    Profundis (Joeun)
How That Guide is Loved (Yunee)
    Rapport (Chahyun)

Before the refining of this genre, many other titles follow the esper/guide verse more generally, such as:

Big Apple (Harusari , Hodot ) has hybrid humans (espers) as warring esper factions, dragons with ESP and without spoiling the story, intimacy enhances the mana.

Dear Door (Pluto) has demons with ESP that require mana via intimacy with their human counterparts (called Doors) for healing and power to return to hell.

Penthouse XXX (Bacong) has hybrid humans that use ESP enhancing drugs, intimacy is seen as a side effect of the drug. These enhanced humans are used as weapons for hire, and assassins.
