Yes. He couldn't saved taehyuk back then because the orb wasn't completed. But now the orb is complete and he get a chance to give to taehyuk even this time taehyuk is nearly dead due to serious injured fell off cliff.
I'm relieved to know they are already together in the present (minus them not knowing yet) but still their past separation is oof.. Maybe the backlash thats happening to our mc is because the orb was incomplete? Excited for plot to return back to present arc ヾ(❀╹◡╹)ﾉ~
