What about when the merchant got dirt on the volcanic sect, is it because their disciples are brainwashed? Also isn't that guy, Bang Ho-Cheol just a bandit leader? ;;
I think it's because they either are trying to get more influence, get a one up on the volcanic sect, have a grudge against them as well, or something to do with the story that hasn't been revealed yet. It probably is something like "You didn't come to our aide when our merchant group fell under" or some bs.

What's going on is: The merchant group are posing as weaklings and are acting innocent when they are not. They made a bet with out mc and lost a lot, and since then they've been holding an immense grudge. Since then, they've been looking for our mc even though part of the blame as to why they went under was due to their greediness and irresponsibility. The mc pretty much recently figured out that the head of the group is acting like a wolf in sheep's clothing, and he's just waiting to see what will happen. Right now they're acting like weirdos and have main character complexes LOL we just need to wait until they reveal themselves more blatantly.
