the worst part about these types of storylines is that the ML will never grovel or beg for forgiveness, he has already been granted that virtue for his sole existence and for being "nice" and "protecting" the mc from his groupies. Watch how in the end its revealed he was never sex crazy and this is the reward the mc gets for being so trusting and sticking it up for him.

You will never NEVER see this type of shit in manhwa. At least in manhwa if the ML is shit the mc leaves and the ML cries and begs and maybe suffers. I have yet to see a ML in a manga grovel (for more than a day) before the mc the abusive or cheating or whatever. There is too much forgiveness in manga bro i hate it so much.

I honestly think it’s because of the culture around dating and attitudes towards women in japan, it is so regularly seen of men there honestly just being a bunch of douchebags and women being expected to just take it. It’s seen so often in their media such as the classic pure schoolgirl image or cute housewife who just wants to get married or a caretaker. It’s all portraylals of traditionally weak and feminine subservient women (not that being any of those things are bad at all!). It’s unfortunate but it happens in most east asian cultures that men should be praised by just existing or doing the bare minimum (or less) even when they are worthless bags of shit. Through manga like this you can really tell that this mindset is really ingrained into the people since it shows an ‘ideal man’ and the ‘ideal man’ is doing more than the bare minimum of being a normally functioning human by- wait for it- apologising!!! “The ‘ideal man’ is so dreamy isn’t he? he apologises for cheating/being abusive/ being a whore!! I wish that happened to me…” It’s honestly so heartbreaking to see this from an outside perspective its also infuriating as hell lololol

I agree 100% its cultural. There's merits to the forgiveness mindset and the strength of persevering through abuse without becoming abusive or toxic but staying kind and empathetic. I love that but i hate constant disrespect or "staying humble" if you well of these relationships.

These amounts of grace are never given to "bad" female characters, it irritates me so much. People talk a lot about morally grey male characters and thats fine i love them too. But there's a clear abundance of them while the female characters have always gotta stay kind, pleasant to be almost deserving of a good ending while they nurture and coddle the male character's emotions. Basically male characters lack emotional maturity while female characters are expected to innately exhibit it.
