THEY HAVE A ADORABLE PUPPY LOVE IN THE NOVEL SO HE BETTER NOT DIES!!!
He stabbed himself it’s not confirmed that he’s dead. It’s deviating from the novel but not to the point of killing off a main character I imagine.
