Literally, it translates to "rose". However, when the term is used in the connotation of Yaoi, it refers to a sub-genre that focuses on very masculine men, rather than the "pretty boy" appearance you see in most typical yaoi. In bara, you often have guys with heavy muscles, body hair and facial hair, as well as older men. It targets a different demographic than most yaoi, since it's usually designed for gay men, rather than women. I hope that helps out!
