Yep. Japanese office politics is rough. If you go on a trip and don't bring back souvenirs, or if you skip out on one too many office drinking parties, you get the stink eye. So if they invited the whole office, it would've been hard for her to skip the wedding without a valid excuse (tho she really could've made up anything).
