In the novel it was briefly mention that the Duke and Duchess has soft spot for Viesse when he was a child and kind of spoiled him rotten and when they realize the demon they created it is already too late to change him. In the side story it is told that when they're child Viesse and Laurel (well mainly viese) used to bully Galahan discreetly. They will take cookies that meant for him and tell the adult that Galahan did not want it when he really like it. Thats why Galahan learn from a young age to stay out of Viese way to stay away from trouble. When the duke reminiscing about the past he admittedly that he is a good patriarch but never a good father. When he about to give up the position he is regretting that he put so much effort for Lombardy but little to nothing to his family and wish he could turn back time to change that.

It's still work wonders how the Lombardi siblings have different personalities like how does one became so arrogant without capabilities, the other is confident and competent, and then we have competent yet have low self esteem.
