1. He’s the bastard son of some noble politician. Since bastards are always hated, His father sent him on the battlefield when he was young, expecting he would die.
2. He survived the battlefield, rose in station all on his own and supported the new prince who became king.
3. The king’s agenda was to purge state officials who were either corrupt or threatened his vision of balancing out the land for the sake of common folks. So bloodbaths ensued.
4. He is something like a political knight of the king. Basically he keeps in check anyone who has a powerful hand in their world.
That’s been my understanding anyway. I remember seeing like I needed more details when I read it. But basically, MC’s family was killed because his father was deemed a traitor. Unclear if he really was.
