no cause I've been thinking about this too. The start of the year is usually when a bunch of bangers come out, then it starts to slow around October-December when everything is on hiatus, but this year has just kinda been a flop

I think we've aged out of what we used to like, seeing that some stuff is weird that we didn't notice when we were younger.
Also, the BL popularity in general has skyrocketed in recent years and artists seeing that wanna cash into the market. So while we used to notice just the good ones, now there's a bunch of bls bc they're prioritizing quantity/marketability/clicks over quality. just imo

right.. i feel like particularly with manhwas they keep using the same plots and character dynamics with the same art styles

You’re so right. I’d rather eat my own foot than read another generic high school BL. I’d go back into the 90’s to find more unique plots but that comes at the risk of wayyyyy more weird and problematic tropes lol

I don’t think it’s necessarily about age, more about quantity over quality. I’ve been reading BL since 2004 and the genre has evolved to be better I think. I can’t think of one series I truly like from the days when I started reading, but I can name a few I really like that are newish. I’ve always been picky with the types of romances I like, so I think that’s also why I haven’t burned out yet.
