Ok maybe its just me, but i dont think i hate rashta. I pity her and I think shes foolish, but considering the time period, woman rights in said period, her childhood , etc, i feel like most people would try to do corrupt things for a better life if they thought that was the best course of action.
It feels like she wanted to make the best of her life by ascending to the throne but due to her ways of getting there, she drove herself mad and started to do more and more deranged things
Its not that i think shes a good person or misunderstood, just a pitiful person who has done bad things if that makes sense

Or maybe im looking too far into it

Girl her past doens't excuse her actions. She keeps on going after taken men. That's not something you can justify by having a past. I do understand what you mean, her fate is pitiful but that's what she brought upon herself. I'd say she's a bad person who's just going through the consequences of her actions but also has a somewhat pitiful past

I remember I used to hate her and while I still don’t like her as a person, I like her as a character? She’s not a one-dimensional villain.

Her fate has always depended on men, the only way she knows how to survive is by getting men on her side. No wonder she “goes after taken men” as someone said above, she doesn’t know any better. The one time in her life that she managed to escape her hell was to make a man fall in love with her, obviously she thinks that now that this man is over her and stopped caring about her, the only thing she can do to make her life better again is to find another man. She was never in a situation when her own actions and her own position could improve her life.

It’s true that she has lost all of her humanity in a way and has no regard for other people, even those who are at a similar disadvantage as she used to be (such as that poor maid) and there is no excuse for that but I can kind of understand why she would do that? You know, understanding WHY is different than approving.

And she grew up with no education, she didn’t form any human relationships (family, friendship or romantic ones), she was never allowed into any social settings so she doesn’t understand how to uphold her position and gain respect or form some connections. The emperor “loved” her but never taught her anything and never tried to introduce her to the society. She only has duke Ergi to learn from but his intentions aren’t good. Like, yeah, she is dumb and acts like a child that doesn’t understand the consequences of her own actions. But that’s because mentally SHE IS A CHILD. She never had an environment to learn logical thinking, planning, how to handle money and so on.

I hate what she does in the story but I can’t deny that she is a well-written character. It makes sense for a former-slave who never even learned how to read and was just forced to do manual labor to be dumb and irresponsible. It would be weirder if she adapted very quickly and behaved like an adult just because she got pregnant and moved to a castle.

Yeah her situation does not excuse her shitty and literally murderous behavior. She deserves exactly ZERO sympathy because she hasn't behaved in a way that shows she gives a shit about anyone's life. Not even her own baby that the threw on the ground. Not Navier's parents, not the innocent maids, not the magic girl she tried to kill/enslave. Trashta can die alone, slowly, and painfully, and I'll cheer. You don't get a free pass for being an absolute shit human just because "waahh I'm a girl life sucks". She had every chance to be better once Navier was out of the palace. She became even worse. That's on her.

I mean once navier was out of the palace she has all the reasons and opportunities to become better sadly she only ever became worse. Although I still can't agree with your statement of "pitying her", i respect ur decision. To each their own ig :)

Sameeee, navier was born with the privilege of status and a very expensive roof on her head but the villain is the girl that was a slave and traumatized by telling her that her son was murdered

Navier was always privilege but she never use her power to make damage, she is always kind with the people surrounded her, for me Navier is idealized she is the perfect empress on the other hand Trashta is a person with the oportunity of ruler a Country but she use her power for her. Its true that she has a bad pass but she can change with the power of an empress the live of a cononer, but she is more she is more worried about the happiness of Navier...

One thing is for sure: Navier can't even begin to understand what it means to be a slave. To have your father betray you dor money and your Lover for your (low) status (concluding only her beauty had value). We are all here saying Navier is cool, but...really: she was a really lucky girl, borned in the right family and all

Do you think that if you have a bad pass you can kill people like the poor maid?

Y'all forgot she was born privileged too. She was also once showered with luxury. She's not that young when her father got bankrupt, left her and turned her into a slave. She's supposed to be at the age enough to determine what's right and wrong, and even how to write and read. Why can't a rich young lady unable to educate herself when she can afford it? While cleaning her owner's house, she was blaming her father for if it wasn't because of him she's still living in luxury now and not get trampled by this family who's not even as rich as them before. Her greed was apparent even when she was living in a beautiful house and was receiving luxury.
