I personally prefer the to be a bit of romance in every story. Even if it's not the main character because I know they're are people out there who are aro, but it just feels incomplete to me if no one ever develops any feeling ever. It feels unnatural.
Tbh, I don't mind romance in this particular story (considering as it's mostly a slice of life) as long as it maintains a good story/romance balance
