I don't think Akiyoshi actually was in love with Minato. He was probably more like attached to him since was his first friend and the first person to genuinely care for him. but if he was indeed in love then I don't know what's worse. The fact that through all those years he never got to confess and move on or the fact that through all those years Minato never saw him that way.
