Honestly he said something that probably came from the game. Maybe what had happened all along was that
Since the Marquis wasn't being the character he's supposed to be (say for example if the date between Penelope and him didn't exist, and he went out with the lion mask child and he really got sacrificed or something in those islands,)
As well as how Eclis was frequenting the area, I suspect Yvonne had something to do with having one of the male leads bring her back to the duchy ANY WAY POSSIBLE.
In the game it was Winter, and now it's Eclis (previously he wouldn't have been there until the Duke picked him up from the auction house thing).
On top of that, it does seem like some weird things happen when her mask is off. Previously she was seen as a kind soul helping out Winter with the distribution of food in those areas and when she had her mask it was like she's the one behind the whole operation (I kind of forgot what it was) and getting rid of all the magicians??
Plus with how she's cold or chilled to the bone it could be that she's being controlled (like puppeteering) by a remote body? Her memories of past were erased maybe intentionally when she was kidnapped.
It would play out that she has the affection of all the male leads and the people, and her objective is to always destroy Penelope, but what actually happens after in the original game? Would it have been like there's a one true route and then idk she destroys the empire or something
