Whoa well, I admit I was kinda bitter at how it ended at first (I really wanted Yuuri to get that gold medal dammit), but then I gathered my thoughts and realized the ending wasn't as bad as I first thought.

Of course, the outcome won't please those who only care about Yuuri winning gold and hate Yurio. And ohhhh if only they had more time for the last episode, they could have added some more scenes that would have completely satisfied us with that ending (like some more dialogue between Yuuri and Yurio and Yuuri and Victor).

Ah I'm not trying to make you change your opinion, but if you loved that anime, I'm just trying to make you regain some of that love back :))

So, about that gold medal...Winning it wasn't really Yuuri's dream, you know? If you pay attention to Yuuri's thoughts in the first episode, he NEVER mentioned he wanted that gold medal. He wasn't depressed because he didn't win, but because he failed to give a satisfying performance, ending up feeling like shit in front of Victor, his idol (as someone with a similar competitive streak, I completely understand how humiliating it must have felt ;w;).
Winning gold was a goal Victor set for him. All Yuuri ever wanted was to be in a competition where he could face Victor as an equal. The thing is, Yuuri always seeked equality between them so breaking Victor's FS world record brought him closer to that dream. That meant A LOT to Yuuri. That's why he looks so content on the podium despite getting silver (that and because Victor is making a comeback and he doesn't feel like he's anchoring his career as a figure skater anymore).
So if (my precious son) Yuuri's happy, then so am I (I still wanted him to get that gold, but oh well) :3 And hey, Victor's back to competitive skating. Now he really is closer to that dream.

And about Yurio getting the gold...I wasn't rooting for him, especially after how bratty he acted in the last episodes, but by giving his all to win, he wanted to stop Yuuri from retiring, he wanted to keep him skating (good job, boy, on reaching a higher level of agape xD). And that reached Yuuri (look at his expressions during Yurio's FS). Furthermore, he may be a brat, but he worked just as hard as the others, maybe even harder since he had to make up for his lack of experience.

The pacing was off this time, but I still liked this episode (it also had some really GREAT moments)

⛸"Of course, the outcome won't please those who only care about Yuuri winning gold and hate Yurio." HEY, I don't feel that way! Yurio is fine, cute, but he has tons of time and many chances at gold. In real life and with that personality, Yurio probably couldn't handle that much success so early in his career.

Well, Merry, you certainly got a lot more intelligent thoughts out of this than me so I must bow to your superior wisdom on this one. Thank you for taking the time to explain all this.

Ah but I wasn't really refering to you about that part xD I just heard so many people complaining because they were only focusing on that that they kinda ended up missing some points. I also like Yurio, but I agree. I hope it won't get to his head, so I look forward to see what they'll do with his character in the 2nd season since one of the creator said that Yurio, despite winning, wasn't satisfied because his FS wasn't perfect ╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭

Hahaha I'm a big fan so I spent the last week only thinking about this anime xDD It's the first time I write down my thoughts so this was fun :3

I knew that. LOL. If you haven't seen Free! you'd probably have lots to think about. It's much longer and sooo good. If you're suffering from Yuuri withdrawal like me, I also recommend these manhwas: "Never Understand," and "What lies at the End" Happy New Year

am I the only one was happy with the ending I was thinking through out the anime how are they going to continue the story for a season 2, ALTHOUGH I REALLY WANTED YURI TO WIN GOLD, this gives the opportunity for the story to go deeper! just my opinion ;)

I was happy with the ending too! XD I mean, I felt like it would be a little . . . --hollow? dull?- to have Yuuri winning just beacuase he's the main character and we're therefore predispositioned to root for him as well. It would also get in the way of expressing the true joy in figure skating and any other such competitive sport. Yes, winning can be good, and an acknowledgment of your skills and achievement, but you shouldn't see/blind yourself with just the prize at the end. The prize (medal, trophy, whatever)should be like a side-affect (and a great one too!) or bonus of your skill, time and effort.
    At least that's how I saw it^^

Though I was disappointed for Victor, since he DID say they would get married after Yuuri won gold XD Dunno if he was serious though. I swear the guys making the anime are always teasing us bl-fans with vague but obvious gayness between the leads >~< like seriously, the RINGS! How can Yuuri NOt see that as a couple-thing? 'Charms' my ass! Who gives 'charms' on Christmas eve, in front of a church (which may well have been a nod to a well know landmark/tourist attraction)!? - at least Victor got right XD
And how many of you guys out there also thought Victor was gonna go for a second kiss when he couldn't kiss Yuuri's gold medal? I reckon Yuuri thought it too, lol, with the way his face coloured.
