From what I understand it’s because she treated him as a human being with kindness especially after knowing the last humans he was friends with Bert him and used his own power that he shared with them to seal him away. Because she was nice to him he was first curious why a human isn’t afraid of him and the intrigued that she’s treating him normally then suddenly that jumped to obsession when she asked him to act as her lover so her father would leave her alone.
