omsim bro, that toxic shit is so deeply integrated within bl plotlines to the point where it gets normalized and even praised. i think most readers forget the fact that the psychological genre is only meant to explore the motives behind a character’s fucked up actions, not for us to emphatize with their shitty ass.
LOL. Please. Did I even say something about rape, abuse, and toxic shit? I said "people who expects rainbows and unicorn" in psychological stories, not people who don't want rape, abuse, and toxic shit.
This is the very root of mental health crisis. They advocate mental health but don't want to go deep and act shock when psychology isn't rainbows and unicorns. Almost the same kind of people who thinks it's all in the head. This is what I mean because I do agree that some bls are torture porn disguised into a psychological piece.
Sometimes, I experience what you mean. It always happens when I read mainstream stories I initially avoided which have been around for quite a period of time already and I finished them or caught up with the latest chapters, I was like "This is it?"
So I tried to analyzed what causes this and I think it is because they are stories I would label as "You had to be there" ones.
For example, when I was 9 years old, I adored a very mediocre story in Wattpad just like other girls and that story is popular until now. New readers would b e like "Whaaaaaat?!" so nostalgia plays a huge part especially when it is one of their first story in that genre. But maybe in some case, people just like a story because it is their (questionable) taste.
I encountered a lot of them in FB and T!kTok comments and I am so tired of seeing them I could cry. An example goes like:
Plot: BL is about MC and ML hunting down someone together and focused on criminal stuff. No sexual implications—a slow burn.
Idiot 1: I am so tired of this story. How long until they have to find the criminal? I kept scrolling through chapters to know if we're getting any smex soon.
Idiot 2: Right? Why can't they just hug and kiss and fuck each other and call it a day? I would like it more if it is focused on romance and action is only a side thing.
Just kill me.
what’s an overrated bl manga/manhwa that you think doesn’t live up to its hype? i’m currently attempting to read high pulse for the nth time, but i just can’t seem to get into it
