Nah man the mom's reaction was completely understandable. Imagine finding out your son is a fcking prostitute even when he has all the resources to work a good job...I'd smack the shit outta him ngl. I'm a firm believer that prostitution should only be the last option for people who don't have any other resources to survive anymore and they should always try to get out of that industry asap

Prostitution pays better than most jobs and some people have nymphomania or an urge to have sex with as many different people as possible. For those people, this job is perfect for them. They get to enjoy their work. Please don’t look down of the adult entertainment industry. Some of it is definitely shady and absolutely is a last resort type of deal but most of it is all safe and koshered so getting into the business won’t cause you any hurt or trauma or anything bad. Plus some porn stars are now kinda actual celebrities considering how many people like and follow them.

this is a glamorized look on sex work. i get what you mean and technically speaking some SW’s consent and are okay with providing sex as a means to make income, but the industry itself is inherently exploitive. it does not pay better than most jobs, only a small percent of SW get paid thousands. majority of workers are trying to make ends meet or use it as extra job to make a living. OP didn’t looking down on the industry but made a critique on a character that misunderstood his mom’s concerns. he had the resources to ask his parents for help but lied and belittled her worries because he wanted to stick to the industry. like you said, this work is sadly a last resort effort to make money… so sex workers often dont have the power to turn down sexual/verbal abuse from clients. it’s false to say sex work is mostly safe and koshered, it’s a high risk job that puts their mental & physical health and safety in jeopardy

he was so privileged for that. sex work is not an easy or rewarding job if you dont make a substantial amount of money. when you put your body out on the internet you will be remembered and recognized forever- how would a parent not get upset at that?? he’s exposed to all sorts of danger and scrutiny then tried to downplay it to the mom… he should’ve put two and two together

This is not how the sex work industry is especially not prostitution, it's exploitive (takes often times advantage of marginalized ppl), you will face verbal and physical abuse, it's for many reason unsafe, it's not easy to quit, and you don't get paid better than the average job, and you basically become the product. I really dislike how nonchalantly the author handles the topic of sex work. Bcs most ppl who work in prostitution didn't simply choose to do it out fun and pleasure, the way this is written is very far removed from reality.

Can't believe people are really out here glamorizing such an exploitative industry. Go and listen to some these 'celebrities' interviews on how they ended up as porn stars, you'd be surprised how the biggest names were actually forced into it in the beginning. It's not some sex lovers people's paradise like author makes it to be.

    Qxeen_zxy January 17, 2024 3:18 am

I can’t believe you guys are taking my words out of context. I literally said that for some people, this work is perfect for them and therefore shouldn’t be looked down upon. You can’t paint every situation with a big brush and call it good or bad. Sex work is more than just porn. Hosting counts as sex work. Geisha in Japan is also sex work yet they don’t never get hated as much as porn does. For those who were forced or exploited, that’s horrible. Not everyone is forced or exploited tho. Take onlyfans for example, it’s allowing people to make money from the comfort of their own homes at their own convenience should they choose to do so and there’s no pressure to do it as there’s no real “contract”. If you want to talk about sex work as if it’s so horrible, what about strippers? They also work in the adult entertainment industry. If you talk to strippers, most of them actually enjoy the income and find it a great job. Especially those who also are furthering their education. Cardi B herself says she will never talk bad about her stripper days because it put food on the table and a roof over her head. Not only that but you are literally enjoying adult entertainment by reading this kind of book. I’m not glorifying anything but putting it into perspective that some people find this work preferable. Some people think night shifts are so horrible and that no one will ever want them but others find them to be the best shift. Everyone will have a different opinion on a specific situation and some are better or worse suited to something compared to another person. Let’s not forget that every job has its pros and cons. I personally work from home as a call handler for the government’s benefit department in my country and the amount of things I hear daily that I have to put up with from known criminals and sex offenders and other entitled individuals is just astounding. But that’s just the con of the job. “The sh!t comes with the territory” is literally a phrase made for this very debate. People who are forced to work in any industry are slaves as that’s slave labour and if they are being recruited using very very shady ways then that’s trafficking. Those are the extreme. You cannot claim every adult entertainment employee are slaves and that every employer are trafficking them. And on top of that, some of those celebrities that claim they were forced into it in the beginning stayed on after their contract was up and even went back to the field after complaining and getting huge amounts of money for “telling their story”. Not everything you see on the news is true or accurate. Please stop twisting what I say to give yourself some confirmation bias. For those who are forced, I believe the slaver should be charged as such and a heavy punishment should be carried out to warn others against this line of conduct. I just want people to not be ridiculed for their choice of job.

I don't agree...? He was working at a shop, not on the streets, he was doing something he liked, he was earning some coin, and I'm assuming he was not a minor when he began. The owner took care of him and now he has his own business, whether it's a choice or not, you shouldn't shame a person for doing sex work, their life not yours to meddle into

there’s a lot to talk abt so if you read all this thx. i disagreed with you because some of your points were incorrect, statistically, and also the generalizations about sex work dont apply to a majority of people in the adult entertainment industry

    1. you said we took your words out of context. let’s not try to back away from the collective arguments you made. you said sw “pays better than MOST jobs” “MOST of it is safe and kosher = it won’t traumatize or hurt you”. those statements are false and i explained why. its been disproven in violence against SW surveys and stats. sex workers are largely disadvantaged, and it exploits them most of the time. while few really make it big and have supportive following, the industry is built off the sexual exploitation of minority groups. while some can break away from it and make good money, that’s not the reality of most workers and i called that out. people dont get into this industry and have a stable income from it, and in your og paragraph u painted a picture that sw provides that compared to normal jobs- but it doesnt and is unstable
    2. escorting and hosting arent the same thing as sex work, even though they can fall under it if sexual services were provided. sex work and those two jobs are completely different things- escorting and hosting are protected jobs, while sex work is illegal in most countries. but not all SW is illegal-sex work varies from prostitution, porn, stripping, and then any other form of sexual service. however remember that any SW is stigmatized against in society, even if a person is idolized or appreciated
and the reality is they can be shunned from normal work or people because of their past

    3. you keep using logical fallacies, specifically hasty generalization because you reference literal celebrities who have a past of SW. again saying “most people enjoy this job” is incorrect because you reference people who either made it out the industry or were lucky enough to have loyal, paying consumers. another fallacy you use is straw man- i said that sex work is exploitive and preys upon vulnerable people but you tried to exaggerate and say im calling them slaves / traffickers… like lol
    4. you know you can support sex workers but also criticize the industry and decisions sex workers make, correct? a character doing sw lied to his mom and didn’t compromise with her, then tried to make her seem hysterical or dramatic… sex work is a dangerous, permanent decision to make. once your face is out there, what you’re known for won’t go away. a person can’t rely on their SW forever and the reality is they can be shunned from normal work or people because of their past
    5. smut in any fictional form is not sex work?? it is not comparable to real adult entertainment nor affects people in real time
    7. going against your arguments isn’t confirmation bias when im in no way twisting your words or changing them. i am quite literally just disagreeing and correcting you
    8. last point stick with me here. we were not ridiculing his job we were saying the mom had a right to be upset. there’s consequences to being in this industry, and as a parent who wants to protect their child how could they not be upset at him for going the most extreme route for income. sex work is not fun and games nor is it easy to assimilate into society again- he had an option to get out but went against the moms concerns. both people can make their own decisions but can also be criticized for them. this does not mean we view sex workers differently

sex work is exploitive and carries stigma. this is not shaming sex work this is calling out how he didn’t get the moms reaction. parents can be disappointed in their kid for taking part in the industry because of the societal consequences and also they themselves being shunned for being involved with people in the adult entertainment industry. people lose their jobs, opportunities, and relationships being a SW and the same can happen for their family as well. it’s great he was able to make a living but him brushing off the moms concerns is unreasonable- being a SW not only puts a target on your back but also the people around you :/ especially your family

Honestly I don’t understand why people feel the need to shame a lucrative field. Some people shame fast food workers or customer service jobs because they are “beneath” them and this is giving me the same vibes. Every single field has good and bad employers and you can literally be forced into any job. I don’t understand why sex work in the porn industry is bad but everyone wants to a geisha or oiran when they visit Japan. They are literally courtesans or prostitutes. That’s their whole purpose. The only thing is not they don’t offer penetrative sex and rules are stricter with touching but it’s still sex work. Why shame one but not all? Why shame the actors but not the director and film crew? It’s so backwards but some people just live to hate on another persons lifestyle ig.

what?? you know you can support sex work and also understand that there’s danger and stigma with the job right? youre making this whole convo black and white by implying SW cannot be criticized or else you’re shaming/not supporting, when it’s complicated between a sex worker and their family. sex work is not a safe job you know this. you can embrace and empower the people who do it but also reflect on the industry and society’s outlook on SW. tell me you don’t actually understand sex work without your surface level ass opinion lol

was it easier for you to agree with someone’s shallow take rather than take time to digest my feedback? it’s very easy to say ppl are shaming sex work rather than to reflect on SW/the industry itself… you make the job sound so incredibly easy with no other attachments to it than just money and all you did here was project the opinions of people who shame sex work?? do you realize you filled in blanks of our actual opinions to make a confirmation bias about how we feel lmao.

your response just showed me you can’t have an authentic conversation without going to the extreme. you clearly haven’t done enough research about sex work nor do you try and critically think about it either. to you it’s just sex and money but completely ignore the violence, stigma, danger, and actual shaming behind it. the original point was a mother has a right to be upset at her kid for lying and putting himself in danger for work so then i was explaining to you why that is and how the job affects the majority of people doing SW because you were wrong about it. that’s all this was but here you go grasping at straws to say we shame sex work all because i called out how there’s more to it than this glorified outlook you had
