This have a lot of flaws... but tbh I can overlook it as it's fantasy... the freckles glasses hair and overweight are a way to make people less attractive according to most beauty standards. The skintone on another hand... I guess author got some serious whiplash since it was there only for some chapters. On that note, having tanned skin (again I'm not talking about having dark skin, but really being sun-kissed) was viewed as unbecoming of nobility since it was associated with hard labor. That is objectively speaking, but I'm glad they changed it (I do think she looked super pretty tanned tho).

What I can't really understand is her and her mother's position in the father's house. Because it's not really made clear if they are a polygamous society or not. Tbh it's kinda confusing.

Back then nobles could take as many wives and they want. Her mother is a concubine of her dad. Her status is much lower than the real wife, which is from a Duke family. Even so Julietta's dad love his mistress more than his wife. This was envied by the main wife so when Julietta's dad was out, she kill Julietta's mom.

Although it was implied that their marriage was just forced by Duke's family. Julietta's mom supposed to be the original wife.

Yeah that's what I don't get. The only ones mentioned to have "concubines" are the royal family and him. Affairs yeah... but not married and living together like ther were. It is mentioned that neither of the 2 princes are "legitimate", born from the 1st wife, and yet they are not treated as "illegitimate bastards" so why would mc be treated as such if her identity is found out? And also... how was his 1st wife allowed to expell them from his house just like that? It's those things that makes little sense to me yk? Kinda like those mangas about the villainess where the crown prince just.. expells and exiles them even if they are dukes daughters like they have authority to do so... and that they don't just take them as empress and the "heroin" as a concubine/consort even when they have half brothers and their father have more than one wife... xD
Sometimes romance doesn't make sense to me...

Cuz Julietta's mom is a low status/commoner. No matter who you are, if you're a commoner in this era, any nobles can use their hands against you. So that wife has power to expell anyone. Also the wife is from a higher status family. So Julietta's dad can't fight against her.

As for the princes, normally in royalty, even if they are from a concubine they are still a prince & have right for the throne. Royalty is always above than any nobles no matter where their origin is from.
