SPOILERS! . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . I've read through all 10 volumes of the Korean novel translated into English, and I feel like the Korean manhwa will take a different route because of the varying differences between the two. Plus, the novel's ending seems a bit rushed (Considering it was only written over 211 days). The timeline is also changed in the book. For instance, the scene where Yoon Chan hugs Yugeon as a cat HAPPENS after Yugeon and Taein have sex. Chan also brings this up later when he and Heesu assault Yugeon after discovering he's been keeping contact with another guide from another company named Bari (Seulbi and that other girl Esper, I forgot). Taein's story is also intensely focused and expanded in the novel, showcasing his life before being awakened, his dynamic with his younger sister, and how they both reacted when the Almuten appeared. Unfortunately, we are already at the peak of the manhwa. When the scene between Heesu and Chan happens, the building or the company gets attacked by the monsters and collapses. The final battle begins there, and the hunters will be heavily injured trying to defeat the final boss. Shinje will die, like his original plan, but Yugeon saves him, which leaves Shinje in a coma. Heesu, on the other hand, will also be knocked out and blind. Leaving Taein and Chan alive and well. Taein advises Yugeon to leave the company and never return since his contract as a guide has been fulfilled. Yugeon agrees and is stopped by Yoon Chan, who confesses his feelings for him. Unfortunately, to all the Yoon Chan lovers out there, he gets rejected and lets him go. In his unconscious state, Yugeon assaults Shinje in an act of revenge for all the things he has done to him, unknowingly guiding him. Years later, he and Shinje reconnect and move in together. Womp womp. It just doesn't make sense. But then again, the author says in their Q&A that Profundis is supposed to be a story of love and hate. Wherein characters like Shinje & Heesu love Yugeon from the get-go, whilst Taein and Chan despise the MC at first. I do have some hope that the webtoon will not take this path, as it feels *extremely* rushed.
