I swear there was a part in the novel where Ritz looks around the village and his happy to see everyone so lively and well. He looks back, noting he never thought he would be the one with the most children in his family.
There was also a part where the family goes to see Ritz's grandfather and he's kind of mad that his grandson hasn't aged though his wife has shown normal signs of aging. Then, he looks a bit closer and is relieved his grandson isn't immortal when he sees the start of a wrinkle in the corner of his eyes.
But I just went to the translation of the novel and it isn't in any of the extra chapters...
