This is just too weird. Like, i get that there are ppl in actual dom/sub relationships irl but that's by choice and the roles are based on their preferences. The idea of the dom/sub role being something that is assigned to you as a second gender without you having a say in the matter just doesn't sit right with me. Especially for the subs because it seems that they can't really go against the doms' commands and are compelled to do whatever they're told. Like in the story when the sub suddenly kneeled without meaning to when he first met the dom just because he commanded him to. It just gives me the ick. Imagine if this was true in our world. The subs would be literally and figuratively fucked

Im in the bdsm community and thats completely spot on for the whole dom/subaverse. Switches are huge in the community, never seen a single switch story either. Consent is key and they are treating it like a bdsm omegaverse which notably has a consistent lack of consent. When I dom someone, they know everything im going to do way before that moment and its been agreed and discussed upon.

The difference with dom/sub universe is that usually they set a safe word. When the sub says the safe word, the dom is stopped by it, no matter what. If they don't it makes them incredibly sick (usually, I've never seen one where a dom didn't stop when the safe word was used. It's like a command that only the sub can use. A lot of dom/sub universe manga use this as a way for the subs to keep themselves safe.

I have also read some dom/sub universe manga with switches so they are out there

This isn't like bdsm in real world, and that's the whole point of it. It's an alternative universe, kinda like omegaverse, but lighter? It's a niche genre, I guess, and it's main difference from rl bdsm is that in sub/dom verse they *are* biologically wired one way or another, and they *are* compelled to react according to whatever their orientation is.
So pls don't judge it according to rl
Tbh I thought that with the school nurse feeding us all the information (quite unnaturally, might I add), it was pretty clear that these people have different biology than real people. But I guess it is easier to understand when you first come across omegaverse and men giving birth, and from that point on you just detach from reality when any novel/manga/whatever starts explaining biology and stuff

(It's me. I was that unfortunate, pure soul who started reading omegaverse without checking what it was.)

Yea, i know it's not like the bdsm irl, bcs the subs in this universe are compelled to do whatever the doms ask them to bcs it's in their biology no matter if their minds consent to it or not, which is vastly different from rl. That's the whole point of my comment, that these poor subs don't have any choice but to obey and that just doesn't sit right with me. I'm familiar with omegaverse where the omegas become mindless during their heats and it's not really my cup of tea either. If you like these types of stories, that's fine. We all have our own preferences. To each their own.

Hm, I get it. But I find that the nice part of these types of work is that in fiction, the bad relationships never work? I mean, the whole point is the sub finding a dom who has common sense and treats their sub nicely and with respect. If you take away the whole "compelled by biology" part, you essentially get a basic rl relationship, which can be either happy (the dom respecting the sub's wishes) or abusive (the dom commands against the sub's wishes).
I mean, even in rl abusive assholes can intimidate/manipulate their partner to the point where they have no choice but to obey. Which we obviously don't like. And in my stories i also never like when the dom is being an ahole. I want my happy, consenting, respectful relationships. If the dom is respectful, the "compelled by biology" part doesn't even have that much weight, because it's gonna be what the sub likes anyway.
At least, that's my stance on this.

That said, this specific manga is a poor example of the genre. There are several things that made me raise eyebrows, such as no safe words until prompted by an outsider, and the dom didn't exactly go out of his way to establish consent. There are plenty of much better works.
