It is very realistic the way it's going right now. A close friendship can lead to mixed feelings and more than friends.

I think they have already fallen in love with each other but just haven't realised it yet, the mood I get from seeing them together feels a little different to friendship. As much as I love them as friends i think they will be a lot happier when they realise their feelings for each other. It is also moving at a realistic pace, the feelings also feel very real.

Trust me, most of gay/straight relationship don't work. Especially if it's a close friend of yours.
