I think you missed what the bow was. The bow was a sacred item that can be used to thrawt curses (which Gabi was under as her curse on the Empress had rebounded) so the gift of the bow was literally to help her keep her sanity. Her hatred came from a lie that was told by another consort, which the empress has cleared up with her words at the end
