Nah i feel like it was there to portray just how terrible people were viewing him. They literally stripped him away of his humanity since he was a child that he became nothing but a tool for everyone else whilst hiding that under the pretense of treating him as a god. Like blind worship being seen is one thing but literally assaulting him in the name of worship is another.
