As someone who read the novel

honestly wouldnt be suprised, but im not mad that shes flawed in that sense bc it makes her characte more realistic ig

There's a scene where penelope confronted her brother that giving gifts to her will not make their
relationship better when its literally the same thing she did to eckles giving gifts thinking eckles will stop being a trouble (like eckles bringing the og heroine )
That is why i dont get people being mad at eckles when its literally her who drive him to be this way and dont get me wrong eckles also kinda did some bad things:>

But to me the difference is that, even if you are right and she is being a hypocrite, eckles is very obsessed. From what I remember he went very far to reach his goals (like sacrificing some of his people then joining the rebellion just to get back Penelope) and she even say he was like that in the original video game where he hides what he thinks.
Penelope is straight forward (also there is the whole abuse part from the brothers) so I like that we can see two different characters act like that to see the contrast.

I mean I feel this is unfair to her bc not everyone is the same just bc gifts don’t affect her doesn’t mean they wouldn’t affect eckles like based on a correlational design 1+1=2, Penelope gives eckles a gift + his percentage going up after a gift = her relationship w eckles can be affected by gift giving, like how could u possibly blame her for thinking that when the results were there so I don’t consider this hypocritical plus his actions towards her was due to his insane obsession with her and only wanting her for himself that is not at all similar to her nor should she be blamed for that just bc she gave him gifts and didn’t love him, “drive him to be this way” is victim blaming when she clearly gave him a better life than before just didn’t love him the way he wanted her to that is simply a him issue.

Ngl reading this i feel like i have too much bias for eckles but idk i just cant feel to like fl at the end i mean dont get me wrong i do know that eckles has an obsession to penelope but penelope literally know this, i know it it for her survival to get the percentage up but it just leaves a bad taste in my mouth that she just sees him as a thing at the end

Ngl the novel is pretty enjoyable but i just cant bring myself to really like the fl (i didnt even read the side stories because of it so maybe im missing out lol)
