what the fuck is with translator's insinuation that the author made it for "their fans" (aka cn fans) and not "US" (aka foreigners). As if cn fans are dirty and we, the foreigners, are the moral ones smells like a white savior complex

If anything I would say it's the foreigners that are weirdos in the fandom now acting like police

I do remember it's an illegal site but I was under impression everyone can use weibo. Unless u wanna log in then it's an ID kinda thing. The issue was them acting like "we" are normal for disliking the "creepy bl undertones". It's a generalized thing and sentiment. Not a literal one aka "only those who can log in to weibo". We are both speculating anyway. To me the translator just speaks like an anti

Chinese fans love the shizun-disciple trope (shizun = master/teacher) or ancient teacher-student trope very much that's why they love shipping Potato x Wolf King.

Westerners/foreigners aren't familiar with this trope much so they find this trope "pedo", "grooming", or "incest-like." And most Asian shippers are pro-shippers, meaning those who believe it's ok to ship as long as it's fictional (no matter how much it's immoral in real life).

I only spit facts. I saw lots of English speakers/westerners express their disgust towards the "BL undertones" in it while Chinese fans literally calling the wolf king Potato's wife. These are just cultural differences. There's no right or wrong in it.

And no, I'm not an anti. I'm actually Asian and even though I said I feel weirded out, it's not that I'm gonna reprimand the author or something. Tbh I don't care at all. I'm pretty indifferent about how the author wants to progress the story because the only thing I care is my Blue x Yellow (Orange) ship. In other words, it does feel weird and if they actually end up together, I'm gonna have that weird feelings inside but I'll respect the author's choice nevertheless

I do agree with @GnY if you read Chinese BL a lot of it is a master/teacher trope. Actually, this manhua is not all out BL just get the vibe here and there in special extra chapters (as the TL referred as fanservice) but even that it’s all generally funny.

I know it's a trope. I personally like that trope very much so the whole "foreigners are not familiar with it and find it disgusting" is kinda null when those notions of "disgust from foreigners" have only started appearing in English speaking fandomS since 2017.

the translator never called it creepy. That's what you interpreted it as. She did admit that she was weirded out by the 'sussy' undertone, that she didn't support it, but she never claimed moral superiority over those who do, or say Chinese fans are in the wrong. It's you who are being defensive. Read the note again.

The translator made her point clear as day. Leave if you don't like it. Stay if you like it. If you stay it doesn't mean you support the trope. If you are, that's fine. But stop fcking talking about it.

There is obviously GOOD argument as to why the trope is weird but that of course doesn't mean that opponents of this trope are morally superior to those who like or are okay with the trope. There might be good arguments in favor of the trope as well, but supporters shouldn't act like people who are weirded out by it are oversensitive.

Like I said, I only spit facts. It's like there's a black color. Some people find black beautiful and the other group of people find it disgusting. It's all about preferences and tolerances. I found 0% of Chinese fans that complain about the trope while lots of westerners or English speakers complain a lot. What would you say if you were me? Ofc you would say it's for Chinese fan base, that's all. It has nothing to do with morals since the pro-shippers don't support such trope in real life anyway. They just think fiction is fiction while the westerners be like noooo not even in the fiction, not the one with PG rate, something like that.

The above comment has said it all. It's just different fan base. No one is superior to the other. You can ship them and I wouldn't call you a psycho for shipping fictional characters even if I do feel weirded out myself. I respect people's personal taste (in fiction) yk

I gave the translator the benefit of the doubt before but this note just wasnt it. U are debating semantics, whether the translator called it creepy or sussy or uncomfy doesnt matter. It's the separation based on race/nationality they did that bothered me. If they worded it wrong then fine but that note basically said "cn fans are a certain way so they find this sussy thing appealing and we foreigners find this sussy thing uncomfy", which again don't throw me in the same basket as u and the same goes for cn fans that might be just uncomfy with it as u are.

Nope. She was describing facts. Chinese fans are indeed comfortable with this trope, while many foreign fans are not. The manhua caters to Chinese fans for obvious reasons. The reason she made that distinction is simply due to that obvious fact - that the author caters to Chinese fans. She never presented any normative statements about the trope, the author nor the Chinese fans, except that she was also not a fan of the trope. You imposed all of that on the translator.

This is a very bold and false assumption. Up until 2017 no foreigners had problem with it as well. In fact it appears a lot in the west too. It's a trope - that's a fact. And as a whole trope it doesn't belong to cn fans. Maybe read up on some fandom history before you start spouting this crap.

tbf this discussion is getting bigger for no reason. Imagine dying on this hill bc someone criticized a translator's note lol
