Maybe thinking that ghosts are evil or something?
He was referring to his belief that someone alive can't relate to a ghost. In which relate meant "have a relationship" whether it be romantic or platonic. I guess Soma changed his perspective when he saw how Akira and Haruto was really in love with each other.
