Original translation more heartfelt than official version.

I just got the official English book, and honestly, the translation for the confesssion in my opinion is a lot more heartfelt in the scans than what they put in the official version.
See for yourself.

Unofficial confession:
“You are…my life.
My world… is incomplete without you.
Even if someone else were here…I hate it if you’re not the one next to me.
So,
so,
Don’t say that it was a mistake…to fall in love with me.”

Official confession:

“You’re the one…who’s made my teenage years worthwhile.
My world…isn’t complete without you, ok?
No matter who else is there for me…not having you by my side…sucks.
So…
Please…
Don’t talk about your feelings for me…
…like they’re a mistake.

The end of the chapter:
Unofficial:

“You are my ultramarine.
You are my everything.”

Official:
“You’re the one who’s made my teenage years worthwhile.
My ultramarine Sky.”

I am so glad I read your comment before reading. I went and read the unofficial translation first and then the official. you are absolutely correct. the unofficial translation is much more poetic and emotional; it shows angst and really flows. not just the confession portion, but throughout. the official version tried really hard to sound like teenagers, which really didnʻt need to.
I hope the traffic light is always green for you and you always find free parking!

I’ve always liked the confession. It’s heartfelt but not cheesy and was sooo happy when I saw this was getting an official release. I was underwhelmed and prefer the unofficial translation. Many times scanlators are better because they cine from a place of love, whereas officials are trying to expand the market so they sometimes localize extensively.

first, sorry for cluttering your thread. I have no idea how I posted twice. and donʻt know how to delete the duplicate comment.
you are absolutely right, the confession is very balanced - itʻs not cheesy, not too mature, not too childhish. the official translation introduced slang, which unbalanced the emotional tone and the build-up.
thanks to you I also figured out who the translator is - Hoshi/Hoshikuzuu. and now I am comparing the official and unofficial translations and looking for Hoshi/Hoshikuzuuʻs work, who collaborated with several other groups. I really appreciate your original post!

    LOL…no worries.
I can’t say if one is more accurate than the other since I can’t read Japanese, but even if the official translation is more accurate, they could have still made it flow more naturally.
For example, in the scans version when he tells him “you are my life.” It was short and sweet and it packed a punch.
Yes “you made my teen years worthwhile” is nice and all, but as a confession it lacks the succinctness and spontaneity of a love confession in my opinion.

I’ve also preordered Hoshi dake ga shitteru. That one is being released by Seven Seas who’s track record is spotty. Hopefully they do an ok job with that one.

I am working my way through Nagisa Furuya-senseiʻs work, currently reading S to N. I was happy to see that S was crystal clear in his pansexual understanding of love. Hoshi dake ga shitteru is next on my list.
I canʻt decide which manga I want to buy first, so I am stuck in my head over it, lol. One day....
thank you again for making my reading more enjoyable!
