Am i the only one who's currently loving the story? It feels realistic to me ! Wataru and Soma both understand the implications of their situationship. They're great friends, and it starts off casual, but they do have chemistry. Wataru understands Soma isn't over his ex because he himself went through the same thing, and he can compromise with it. But then, when that deal-breaker year-end meeting happens and he decides to end their relationship to focus on himself, it's precisely because his past experience with break-ups has made him mature enough to understand it's not gonna end well for both of them if they continue this thing when Soma still isn't actually ready for a new relationship yet. Soma isn't the big asshole people in the comments make him out to be. Sure, he got greedy, but he was also vulnerable. He didn't really lead Wataru on, Wataru knew his situation and still decided to go on with him, and they were friends before anything. Soma relied on him like that, and was always honest with him about his ex. Plus his feelings for Wataru are genuine. Its hard navigating the lingering feelings of a break-up while at the same time falling in love for another person. But it happens all the time. It's a human thing.... I like how this story delves into themes like patience and prioritizing between relationships, friendships, and where the lines blur. And i like how blunt and awkward the characters are, with their own ego and shortcomings, without turning everything into huge drama. Yes, it's painful, but it feels very honest. And it never gets melodramatic. It's very real idk

Why is everyone saying stuff like this?? He is LITERALLY putting wataru down in front of others and is embarrassed of him. He also puts him down to his face. And not in a joking way. He’s doing that mean girl shit where they say it like a joke but it’s more honest than not. He is being such a red flag fake friend punk ass jerk. He was even an asshole the first time they spoke. He’s actually heinous lmao

because that's what real people are like too ?? and literally the main reason why i like this story is because the characters are realistic? Why is liking asshole-ish characters such a foreign concept to some of yall lmao

Also asshole characters can have redeeming qualities!! it's what makes them feel complex and realistic and likeable despite everything ! And it's so rare in run-of-the-mill yaoi manga to have that type of quality storytelling and character writing ! Like, sorry i like well-written toxicity ig lmfao

Defensive much…all I’m saying is that if the text doesn’t recognize and confront their flaws then it’s not actually writing a complex character and doing anything meaningful with it. He doesn’t change or grow, he just gets caught and is like let’s date bc I wanna date somebody that loves me even if I don’t love them back to soothe my huge ego. Soma is just being a jerk and stays a jerk. Yes it’s interesting to see complex characters but he doesn’t truly get held accountable and in the end doesn’t love or respect wataru and is having a shallow relationship with him. He leads wataru on, verbally abused him, puts him down, and has no respect for watarus feelings at any point in the story. He’s selfish to the point it’s no longer interesting, he’s just an abuser and that’s unpleasant. It’s not a romance story it’s just…a story of a toxic relationship with a mean guy that doesn’t really love you. If it was written to be a horror or psychological thriller with some other ultimate climax that would be one thing but this is written to be a romance and in the end soma doesn’t change, heal, or fall in love. So the work doesn’t even do what it set out to do.

A better story about messed up complex people is “Am I Being Unreasonable”. It’s a tv show about irredeemable mean selfish people and you slowly uncover just how selfish and ugly they were and how it has damaged the people around them as the narrative plays out right up to the end where a final big reveal that drives home how selfish the lead is. She’s very entertaining and you find yourself rooting for her at various points or empathizing with her just to be confronted with how cruel her selfishness is. The show leaves you feeling like one of the people in her immediate circle, you feel betrayed as you got to know her only to find out you DIDNT know her and couldn’t have imagined the secrets she’s hiding.

The point of critiquing media isn’t just saying you like something for being different but understanding why it’s different and if it actually does anything interesting with the themes and story it promised to tell. A story that promises and doesn’t deliver, and in such an unsatisfying way, isn’t good even if it isn’t as cliche as other works in its genre.

I was far from having perceived him like that with current informations. Interesting approach, it gives him some qualities but he nevertheless remains a hell of an asshole. And shit that’s why I like the story
Because honestly I'm following this only because it's "the story in which I want to hit the nasty stare bastard"
Bravo to the author in this case, it serves a double function: it's as pitiful as reality and it's memorable !
