A month or so ago, the topic of fanservice popped off and people were saying fanservice for women is basically how the men act. Also a lot of women seem okay with simply shirtless men.

This made me think am I okay? If someone told me about a fanservice game for women and all it had was shirtless men making me breakfast and punching the baddies I would be servery disappointed but how does one sexualise men. With women it is easy. Women's bodies are heavily sexualised the breast, tighs, butt and sometimes even the neck, shoulders, belly, feet etc. But with men the only sexualised things are sexual body parts like the penis and maybe the butt. You could argue muscles can be, but too much muscles and now it is just fanservice for men who want that body.

I want to know anybody thoughts on this.

I am not going to lie I am not expecting more than 2 responses on this, so if someone can give me a website and a place where it wouldn't feel out of question to ask this please tell me.

This is an interesting topic, Fanservice is always catered towards men more than us woman - we get more subtle fanservice in the romantic department instead of the sexual one or the "fujoshi" baiting with the homoreotic tension between male characters

I think a good example of female catered fanservice is JJK, like the Gojo 10 sec unneccessary long *hard* breathing scene or when Nanami pulled that one Villain's ponytail (people went crazy for them)

This also reminds me of that one video I saw some time ago (really long time ago) most Men tend to see us woman as objects first before we are a person so its just easier to sexualize us. It really dwelt into the thematic but I can't seem to find it right now.

Intresting thank you. I guess fanservice can't come in the form of a man's body alone.

BTW do you know anywhere I could discuss this.

I am thinking of maybe reddit but I do not know which subreddit I should do.

My concern about this topic is while female character's "fanservice" are being shamed, the male character's fanservice are being celebrated.

This is reflection of how women are viewed in real life. Women are slut shamed for dressing the way wanted. They cannot show and express their own selves without people viewing them as nothing as eye candy. Now, readers/watchers viewed female characters who dress freely and has unique way of clothing, what they called "sexy" or "fanservice" as just that and not their characteristics. This is why women are being bad mouthed by men and worst by women also. They are slut shamed.

I just hate also why the way women are dressing are considered as fanserive to male. It should the way fictional character act. Not the way they are dressed.

And hate hate how fanservice towards women are not considered bad as fanservice towards male. You have an anime where women are squeaking at the male character beating up a character and finds it sexual. You have women gawking at at the way male character's body but we drew the line at female character's appearance of her stomach or naked body. They are equally bad. You can't go around in social media on how jjk don't have fanservice.

I'm sorry this is too long, I just can't get over at one post about no fanservice in jjk. In fact fanservice is not bad at all if the character we are talking about is well written. It's just male vs female fanservice is equal. Celebrate both.

I understand your point but fanservice is to do with intention I would say. Artist draw women in certain clothing to sexualise them.

I am not sure what would count as fanservice for women but I wouldn't say drawing a muscular body in a show meant for a make audience is fanservice, as those bodies are drawn for men to look up to or want to work towards.

Also when it comes to fanservice in anime it is more than how a woman dresses. Artist draw unrealistic proportions or point out certain areas that are often sexualised in women and also the women end up un situations where against their will those areas are exposed or touched.

When it comes to fanservice for women maybe it is less criticised because it is less popular. Not sure how popular a show would be with women if it was just fanservice yet ecchi is a popular genre and again you can only really focus on men's chest and can't really do much with that for 12 episodes.

Additionally, when does a character being attractive=fanservice. People say that fanservice for women (FSFW) is how men act but is that the same as FSFM as there are also personality traits that men like in female characters including blodd-thirsty, morally corrupt psychos.
