I think he actually was. He thought it was the prince, but his sister(?) asked him if he got back ok and talked about the prince coming back a few minutes after he followed MC. All the hickies would also make sense with how.. passionate.. the duke is. He’d be way more terrifying for those bullies over the prince (imo)
