Uh I don’t think he was actually blaming the friend. From the subtle context throughout the chapter, him saying that is basically saying that he’s blaming himself the most. He’s suffering from guilt and as a defense mechanism, and a little bit of toxicity, he blames the friend in his head when he fully knows that he doesn’t actually feel so. At least that’s how I interpret it from everything I’m reading between the lines. (Might be just me being delulu ngl)
Heads up, the mc is also suffering from mental illness himself since his mother’s death, seeing from his change to indifference to everything and some self-destructiveness as well. His unhealthy environment isn’t doing well to treat it either. I’m not saying that I’m defending him being an ass to the friend because he is, although i admit the calls were annoying even for me, he never sought to communicate properly with the friend either so that's on him. However it would be better to fully understand his situation and characterization.
