I can't help but laugh at the 'I neglected and isolated you because I'm socially awkward and my face is scary. However, I still raised your siblings just not you' parental excuse.
Also the 'I was never interested in you before and honestly wouldn't have cared if you died but you're suddenly different and now I'm interested' trope
