Hey, just to let you know. This is not how I can handle real life stuff. Fiction has its place where it's safe to express these things. I'm not a fan of the rape trope. Even though I come across as if I am, because I am exploring other facets of Ian's character and roles of which his circumstances puts him in.
I didn't know you had to go through that. But my views on Omegaverses remains the same, particularly because they are omegaverses. And again, this is a fictional world.
Fictional enjoyment and rationalizations are not the same as the real world, does not carry over into the real world, and is not applicable in the real world, and vice versa. If any of this discussion is too much for you, then I am sorry. It's best to read healthier stories. If I put too much emphasis on the rape itself, I wouldn't be able to move past that to read the rest of the story.
Case in point, I had tried a lot of times in starting "A Tree Without Roots" but never could get past the first chapter. I cannot deal with Stockholm Syndrome. But once I grinned and bear it I got past the first chapter - which is still very impactful - I finally got into the meat of the story and it was very well done, the pacing, the story telling, just perfect, not to mention the exquisite art.
I see things but if I keep looking at it, I will never be able to move fwd.
I'm so sorry you went through that, but when I read this, to me, its like I'm reading a fictional horror book, in horror books, sometimes, very realistic horrible things happen, yes, but people still read it. Of course I understand that making it seem like "it's normal" is what triggers people, but I don't think people should say to the author: this is horrable, why did you make this, what is this shit... And many more things. Ok, if you don't like then just say you don't like it and say because it goes against your morals and it triggers you because its realistic, ans that's fine. But when people go and be really mean and just awful to the authors, then the fans are in the wrong, using their anonimity to be awful people on the internet and make people gove up on their art... I have seen so many manhwas having to be on brake because the authors can't handle how a portion of their fans are being to him.
Not saying this is your case, because you were very polite in saying why this story just wasn't good for you and was too realistic and in this types of stories, that just doesn't work in its favor. But yeah if it's not for you just don't read it tho
Honestly In the beginning idky I really didn't it would also turn out like that. Idk I was naive to think this Omegaverse will be all lovey dovey but I guess can't really blame someone over what irks me and doesn't irk them. Some will read it and nod along n move on. Some will get stuck n wonder why it always turn out like this. Honestly ig I just try to find an escape in these works since world is already shitty enough but then the works I end up reading turns out like this, there is always a similar trope and some similar elements that resonate with real life. In the end its just something i not everyone will see. Can't really blame anyone ig
Idunno about this site but typical manhwas and novels that are produced and distributed on legal platforms have tags to tell the audience what kind of material they are getting into. This site is a free-for-all, and don't have those kids of tags, unless the users themselves (other readers) have tagged them as such, and IF they had done so correctly too, since it's very viewer biased. It's my tagged by the author or the artist or the company that produces them then, this is just all up for grabs.
youre correct. people can take fictional tropes and unconsciously or consciously create real world biases around them. but the vast majority of these people are not who this manhwa and many BL manhwa were intended for, minors. anyone can come on this site and read something 18 plus and have their perceptions of not only rape but MLM couples, consent, sex even just the general idea of dating ruined because if 16 year olds continue coming on this website and reading 18+ fictional content of course they’ll form their own biases from being exposed at a young age. its also that and the fact that the author should be able choose to write about anything they want without having to worry about “is this appropriate for someone who doesn’t like stories with rape and dubcon elements”. If you read an omegaverse story 80% of the sell is the dubcon element to it, and this isnt a sweet or wholesome story. i agree that the fiction we consume can absolutely influence our thinking in the real world but most people can draw the distinction, most adults can draw that distinction. Im really sorry youve had someone try to invalidate your experiences, and i agree with your point but unfortunately this is the way things are for the foreseeable future.
Gonna leave this since I saw enough opinions on this and it feels like i gotta say this. It's very amazing if you are able to seperate real and fictional world, like good job. It's a good thing but don't forget this fictional work has lots of elements of real world than you can imagine. Ain't no one here is being moral police, ain't no one here is just crying about everything. If you can't even understand some simple things, like they are basic concepts of real life that you must keep in mind when you read a work. This content is also a form of media which people consume and carry forward. Yes they do. Saying it's Omegaverse and this or that happens n it's okay, that it's justifiable cuz yk it's an Omegaverse after all it just feels horrible and to justify that I saw people blame uke for what happened. Am not being over dramatic, as a victim myself I have heard exact same things people say to me for years and it's really baffling to see people use the same words for fictional characters too. 'Why did he go there, why did he do that this or whatever' I guess yah whatever I do cry over everything. I see a character that remind me of myself it became personal. To each their own ig. It's just a fictional work in the end but don't forget it takes a lot from real world and how you react to it shows me glimpse of how you might react in real world. You don't have to agree with me idc. Good for you ig if you read things and they don't make you question anything at all. Good for you.
