I don't know if he did it intentionally, he broke up w/ Noah before Noah had turned so it could just be a side effect from having been around an alpha, either a) long enough to get exposure or b) from rutting pheromones (instantaneous). Ian's desire is to be free from relationships dictated by sex hormones induced by ruts and heats, as well as by pheromones. So I'm sure it was all accidental. Rather than purposely.
