Yeah kaiju literally means "strange creature" but nowadays it just means "monster." Doesn't have anything to do with size but Godzilla will do that to you.
oh really? that's so interesting!! because the first thing that shows up on google is that it does mean it's a a giant monster. But after I read your comment I googled it again and another result does say exactly that!! Now it makes way more sense why the manga is called what it is and what was bugging me isn't bugging me anymore!

but like a Kaiju is a giant monster (like godzilla or the monsters from pacific rim) so technically Kafka isn't a Kaiju right? And neither are the mega "kaijus" that are smaller in nature. Unless I'm wrong about the meaning of the word lol
