The art is super cute and the outfits are amazing, but I honestly feel like the main characters have NO PERSONALITY! It feels so generic to me like if I would most definitely forget about this manga in a few days I’m not hours. The communication amongst them is also very surface level and the speed that their relationship developed felt off… like how is YOUR MOTHER gonna tell you not to fall in love ( which felt like a MAJOR plot point), but immediately in the next chapter you’re in love with them with no thought back onto his mother’s words. Why didn’t they talk more about his trauma and why does the mc just cry instead of talking like an adult? Maybe that’s just me, since I HATE crybaby mc’s who couldn’t defend themselves against a bunny even if their life depended on it. On top of that, the mc’s outfits are cute and so is he, but he’s genuinely kinda bland and why does it look like the author is presenting him as a female lead?? If there wasn’t any scenes or if it wasn’t express by the other characters I wouldn’t have known! This manga really reminded me of a shoujo time period story like all we were missing was the antagonist - evil stepmother/stepsibling, inattentive father, a love interest or two, and random mob characters that are only there it create drama ( and they hit all the plot points of your basic time-period story(๑•ㅂ•)و✧)

And who does relationships work were they are??? Like is it common for there to be same-sex relationships? Or is that something that usually happens amongst commoners cause they mentioned that he was a guy, but never touched back on that topic, they were open about his reality, the mc’s mother didn’t comment on it and seemed to understand their relationship ( which makes me think she is more comfortable with same sex couples), and the one noble was hitting on him in public as well? I feel like I’m losing my mind omg, what is going on ヾ(❀╹◡╹)ノ~???????

I don’t think a lot of that is important. I think their characters are fine and have enough personality to move the story and get invested in them.

As for Rupard’s mother, it was already explained to you. She was suffering from having unrequited love with his father and his father essentially toss her aside once his fancy of her wore away. Her desperation to have him love her again drove her to madness and she ended her life. That traumatizes Rupard from ever seeking romance because he associated with pain. The spectre of his mother is a manifestation of that fear. We don’t know if she actually said it or not but it doesn’t matter because it’s Rupard’s fears.

Also this isn’t the real world. Londonium, the setting of the story, is a clue. The story shows that homosexuality is accepted as normal just that for nobles like Rupard, it’s still essential to marry women for power and make heirs.

No lol the mc is literally a self insert. The manga could exist without the mc. We dont need him, one out of million ppl of the trope.

what counts as “being presented as a female lead” I wonder? the long hair? the clothes? the shoes with heels? the setting? I get that heteronormativity in yaoi is a thing in some cases but if we see every “non-stereotypically-male” male lead in yaoi as a possible female replacement, where does that get us? Idk

you could say that about any BL tho. most of them literally are self inserts and projections from the author's side. but idk if you're ready for that convo
