I don't thinks so. I think there was a chapter where he was talking with his mother over the phone (i mean she was talking and he was like "..." xD). I think he's like that for comedic purposes

Actually I have a mute friend and he still accepts phone call usually we only left message for him and if he listens and understand us, he presses a button so we know. The phone call we made to him isn't for chatting purposes.

I only remember that his mother was talking and talking during that phone call and that she's "kinda" a bad mother and that he was naked in the bathtub... :D

For some reason I connected being mute and deaf so I commented like that, but yeah it's possible for him to be mute ,but because it was never mentioned or addressed properly in the story so i always thought that it was only for comedic purposes.
