ML was an imoogi, snake destined to become a dragon. To become a dragon, he had to understand human emotions, and then let go of them and ascend to heavens. One pearl was inside him, and one formed in the MC, because MC was basically a "representation" of ML learning human emotion. So his task was to absorb the pearl that formed in MC (which would kill MC), show this was that he was ready to let go of human emotions and become a dragon. Because he needed both pearls to "ascend". This was kinda like a test, I guess. Learn human emotions and then have enough strength to discard them, and boom, you become a dragon. But ML loved MC too much and wished to stay with him which made the heavens upset so they brought misfortune on MC as a punishment for ML. The heavens also made it so that MC would never reincarnate, his soul would just perish after he died. At that time the pearls were still in their respective bodies. Then, ML decided to take punishment from the heavens and be locked in a cave for a long time while constantly feeling pain, and as a "reward" MC was allowed to be reincarnated and he was supposed to lead a normal life in his next life. But what was unknown to everybody but MC (only MC from first life), before MC died, he kept wishing to be able to meet ML in his next life, fall in love with him and be happy. The pearl that was still inside him listened to his wish, but it wasn't powerful enough to make his wish come true without consequences. So, the price of having his wish granted by the pearl inside him was that he would lead an extremely unlucky life in his next life. That's why in his second life when MC met ML as a child, ML was confused why MC has suck a bad life - because ML accepted that punishment of being in a cave so that MC can have an ordinary life. But ML didn't know that MC made that wish to reunite with him and that the pearl granted that wish and that this was the reason why MC had an unlucky life. So, because of all that unluckiness, the pearl that was inside MC was covered in unlucky energy and ML couldn't feel the presence of the pearl, it's been integrated in MC's body, that's why ML thought that MC didn't have the pearl anymore. ML absorbed all the bad luck that MC had, so that meant that MC now had a "clean" pearl inside him and ML's pearl was carrying all that luck. However, with only one pearl, he wasn't able to withstand the bad energy and was getting weak (I think???). And that's also the reason why nobody else could "move/touch" MC's bad luck - because it could only travel between the pearls, and only MC and ML had those. So yeah, ML couldn't physically stand all that bad luck with just one pearl, and MC was too unlucky to bear the bad luck in his pearl and was constantly getting into dangerous accidents. They found out from that blonde snake youkai that if ML had both of his pearls and they fused - like they were originally supposed to - his powers would become more stable and he'd be able to bear the bad luck easily this way. BUT that meant he had to literally eat the pearl that MC had. And... the pearl was so heavily integrated with MC's body, that the only way for ML to eat it was to eat MC whole (lol). Because it's definitely somewhere in his body so if he eats him whole he won't miss a spot. But that'd mean MC would die. Still, the youkai told them that there's a chance ML could eat MC and absorb the pearl and THEN throw him up before it's too late. But ML would have to be very careful not to injure MC while he's "being eaten" and to throw him up at the right time. So there was high chance MC could die (get eaten) or become crippled. Still, they wanted to try because that seemed like the only solution. So they did and while MC was in ML's stomach, the two pearls reunited and ML successfully threw MC up without injuring him. So now MC didn't have any pearl or bad luck inside him anymore. Instead it was the ML that now had both of the pearls that fused into one, and inside that pearl was all the bad luck that MC used to have. But now that the pearl was complete, ML could easily trap the bad luck inside and hold it there without it affecting him like before. He didn't become a dragon but he was definitely stronger and more stable now. And just like that, happy ending~
