Both main characters are flawed and makes mistakes. I think people needs to stop bringing up how Carcel cheated in the past when he was actually a 6 year old boy who was manipulated by a woman who already lived 3 lives. Ines was in the wrong for that BUT she was living in edge. She experienced trauma a lot of times, losing herself due to misogynic ways of the society and her own family. Shaming her for not returning Carcel's feelings is incredibly stupid.

It's not like he was forced tos keep around.
I'm not blaming him for it but saying he was manipulated into it seems like a big exagération lol

    “He was not forced “????
It was literally an imperial decree. He was forced into a marriage he couldn’t back out of with a girl who made it clear that he didn’t mean shyt to her. He could neither go near her nor away.
I think if it was her who was in this situation people would be probably cheering her on to run away from this toxic relationship.
I don’t condone cheating but this the only way he saw to rebel.

Also he WAS manipulated into cheating by Ines. She has been working in the background making sure the noble daughters throw themselves at him. And she continues doing this even after marriage.

I'm not talking about that. I'm only talking about the sleeping around thing. I'm not condemning his actions, I actually really like him

Yeah, she's setting the situation up. But let's not act as if he doesn't have free will of his own.

I do that all the time with my friends. Set situations up where they're with girls/boys/people they find attractive or I think they would like, see if anything works out.

But it's ultimately up to them what happens. They don't end up together? Free will

They actually have something going on? Also free will.

Just because I made sure they met and had time for one another doesn't mean I forced them into anything lol, it's essentially the same with Ines and carcel

Yeah but frankly I think she's a bit of an unrealizable narrator.

That aside, even though she did manipulate him, his decision to sleep with other women was still his own. Which is fine, they're both adults idc about that

The only reason why is an unreliable narrator is because she's gone through tons of shit so she's prioritizing herself and what she saw from her past.

Ines literally manipulated him. She picked a 6 year old kid as a target because of what she saw from the past. When I say manipulation, it does NOT ONLY INCLUDE cheating. I meant emotional manipulation. The poor kid was placed on edge. And he was treated like a 'pretty vase' compared to 'perfect Ines'. Ines had the power over him because of her higher status. The only way he saw an out was to cheat. While it was wrong, he doesn't have any romantic feelings for her that time, only hatred.

You're reading the story just in Ines perspective.

And honestly, was it really cheating when it was a childhood betrothal he had zero choice on, and Ines made it incredibly clear for years that she had no romantic or sexual interest in him and only wanted him as some kind of decoration and proposal-deterrent? He tried developing a genuine relationship before his manwhore era and she rejected any approaches

I'm not saying her reasons aren't justified

And I never said she didn't manipulate him either.

But SLEEPING WITH OTHER PEOPLE WAS HIS OWN CHOICE. You yourself are admitting that.

Exactly. Maybe it's still legally cheating but they both have a sort of understanding where the other knew that the other knew(lol) so it was more like an open relationship than anything.

You weren't manipulated since you were 6 so you have more free will. If someone been manipulating you since you were 6, you're more prone to act as they wanted even when you older.

He may think it's his own choice but she been telling him that its normal for him to have girls around him and someone to share bc he's handsome bc she doesn't care if he doesn't love her. He just needs to know that she loves him even tho she doesn't act like it and keep turning him back when he did try to approach her and be serious.

You said that being manipulated into it seems a big stretch lol when the main character literally said it's the plan. That's the only reason why I'm providing you statements. Im not saying he doesn't have a choice. Please use reading comprehension.

Inés said the plan was to have him cheat on her AFTER they were married as a pretext for divorce.

THAT is the whole point of why she chose carcel.

Also, if you're saying that he *did* indeed have and exercise his own choice of sleeping with other women, then what was the point of your comment?

Not to mention I don't want to hear that advice from someone who literally calls themselves fujoshi-same lmao

She emotionally manipulated him as a child before even marriage.

Yeah she did manipulate him but we're (or at least I am) speaking strictly about the sleeping around thing.

Her manipulation caused him to sleep around. Even if he had the choice if someone keep telling you that you're free to love others and don't want you love, keep turning you away when you try, but pretend to lovebomb you when you're away, saying you're so handsome it's fine to share you, I think that's enough to justify his actions. If a parents keeps telling a kid that they're smart, the kid might keep thinking that even when they're adults. She's been manipulating him since they were 6. Even if he was loyal to her, once he gets tired of her keep pushing him away, with her telling him for ages that it's fine to love others, he very well might as well do it since she said it's fine.
