sure he's an asshole, but aside from apologizing, what else could he do now? the abuse already happened and it's not like he could turn back time. i'm not defending his actions, but even now, he isn't even asking for much. he just wants philomel to at least stay in the palace and forgive him, and he's doing a good job in asking for her forgiveness. i like how he isn't forcing her to do anything. and it's pretty realistic that he's at lost of what to do (read: a little dumb) because no one's there to tell him what's right and wrong.
they should definitely sit down and have a deep conversation, and it seems that it'll happen later in the future. i think it's a little unfair to condemn him when he's going through his character development.
i rather wish for the emperor and her real dad to share custody together
I agree with what you said, and what he's doing right now is good, yet I don't think he should get custody of her. It's like saying "Yeah my husband abused me for 9 years but now suddenly he wants me to forgive him". Hence, he's not forcing is a good thing and yeah he deserves all the hate cause he has done some shitty things that's why he has no way of defending himself right now. As a result of this, a shitty character gets all the hate for being shitty and will also get compliments for good character development. Still he does not deserve her custody.
I love how their relationship is handled, she doesn't suddenly decide to forgive him for everything and move on like nothing happened.
(no spoilers) I'm somewhere in the 130's of the novel chapters and she still hasn't completely forgiven him.
I was kinda coming around to liking him but something was revealed and now I'm just sitting here going-
That's right. BEG you cretin (╯°Д °)╯╧╧
Their relationship is not unsalvageable, Philomel just needs some time, and I'd love to see how they build trust and develop a real relationship this time.
Yup. Neglect is also a form of abuse and Phil basically didn't have anyone on her side until she herself started working for her survival, it was heartbreaking to see her cry as a child when she realised nobody wants her. The King was dealing with his own issues (he lost the love of his life) but he is the adult in this relationship and he should have been the one took care of the child and not the other way around. Also another thing to notice is the fact that the King never apologised to Phil once before she confessed her feeling of feeling suffocated in the palace, like the dude surely knew he wasn't exactly treating her right for at least 9 years and never said sorry for that until he was confronted ? The character development has to be a long one lol. I know that he isn't completely unredeemable or anything like that, he just has his mistakes and flaws he has to work on. I am sure Phil will make the right judgement, she is mature enough for both of them lol.
Tbh, I was low key kinda feeling a bit of empathy towards the emperor and how he was trying to get mc's forgiveness and all
...and then I decided to reread from the start. AND LET ME TELL YOU! THE WAY ANY AND ALL SYMPATHETIC EMOTIONS I WAS FEELING TOWARDS THAT PIECE OF SHIT COULD CHALLANGE USAN BOLT IN TERMS OF SPEED CAUSE HOW TF DO YOU EXPECT FORGIVENESS FOR COMPLETELY NEGLECTING YOUR CHILD UP UNTIL SHE WAS 9 YEARS OLD, IGNORING HER SUFFERING, REFERING TO HER AS "that thing", SAYING THE COLDEST THINGS TO HER, REFUSING TO GIVE HER THE TIME OF DAY, AND IGNORING OBVIOUS SIGNS THAT SHE WAS SUFFERING!??? LIKE SHE WAS LITERALLY BEING PHYSICALLY AND VERBALLY ABUSED BY THAT SHITTY NANNY THAT YOU HIRED??? GO FUCK YOURSELF DICKHEAD. I HOPE SHE LEAVES YOUR ASS AND THAT SHIT HURTS CAUSE YOU DESERVE A FUCKING SHANK AND A TWIST.
