yea I thought this too, plus add on the fact he realized he was in love/crushing on Shion when they were 17 and 12 respectively. He's prolly subconsciously still Remembering themselves/Shion as way further apart in age + maturity than they are now at 25 and 20.
good lord you can tell the author is hella young if they think a 5 year age gap in your 20s is large. 5 years as an adult is nothing. Also who the heck rounds up 25 years old to being "almost 30"?!
